Description

Sight words are a mixture of regular and irregular words that make up to 75% of the words used in early children's written material. Recognising sight words automatically or by sight, therefore, contributes to reading effortlessly and with understanding.

The Dystech assessment accesses words from a list of the 1500 most common English words in order of frequency in print, as determined by the analysis of the Google's Trillion Word Corpus. We removed all inappropriate words and adapted the word bank for use in Dystech's inclusive assessment platform.

How

In order to assess Sight Word Fluency (SWF), the focus is on the student's ability to read regular and irregular words. Dystech combines the number of words read accurately with the student's reading rate to measure the SWF, which is automatically measured during each word reading assessment on Dystech.
